- What leads to workplace violence? … considers the circumstances that can trigger violence, and the way that different reactions lead to different outcomes
- How can you reduce the risk of violence? … focuses on effective communication skills, looking at various blocks to effective communication and suggesting ways to help reduce these blocks. The role of active prevention is also highlighted
- How can you respond to a difficult situation? … explores dynamic risk assessment and takes the user through a personal risk review
- What should you do after an incident of has happened? … looks at support for all those involved in an incident and emphasises the importance of effective recording and reporting
In-depth conflict management
Some settings may require a more detailed programme of independent study. The conflict management package in SAFERonline, which takes 60-90 minutes to complete, helps meet this need. This more detailed package builds on the same structure and information as the awareness version but also includes content on
- employer and employee responsibilities with regard to work related violence
- the rational and emotional brains, and how these influence our response to conflict
- verbal and non-verbal communication skills, linking into defusing and calming
- legal framework around the use of force
- natural human responses to workplace violence
SAFERonline is available in care, work and children's versions, and can be fully tailored to your requirements, so that key messages from your organisation can be reinforced. Self-check questions can also be fully individualised, so that staff are prompted to reflect on the particular issues that they face in their workplace.
Branding to the organisation's colour, logo and sector references is included as part of the package price. Intranet compatibility is possible at extra cost.
The trainer audit function tracks learner progress through the modules and provides the employer with a comprehensive training record of all learners using the system. Access permissions can be restricted depending upon client requirements. For example a local manager could access his/her team records but not records from another department.
This is a powerful tool for managing a training programme with the added benefit of providing training records for all users and a robust audit trail.
Management information can also be produced. Managers can produce extract reports which draw information from staff responses to staff survey questions and the personal risk review. For example managers can view summaries of staff views on the effectiveness of the organisation's risk assessments and reporting procedures. These reports help managers make informed decisions on policy and training needs.
The e-learning tools make up part of the learning and resource centre. The learning modules can be integrated with the management tools, and/or used by tutors on the Licensed Tutor Training programme. |
