Trainer training in conflict management

Employers now have the opportunity to deliver Maybo conflict management and physical intervention training through their own tutors, using Maybo's licensed tutor programme.

The programme offers employers great flexibility plus the rigour needed to better protect staff, service users and the organisation in this critical area of training. Tutors and delegates will benefit from the outstanding resources that accompany this programme and gain recognition for achievement.

Maybo's Licensed Tutor Programme enables your own organisation's inhouse trainers to deliver accredited Maybo training.

.

Why have a Maybo licence to train in conflict management?

  • Maybo is regarded as a leader in the field of violence risk management and trainer development.
  • In some workplaces there is also a need for physical intervention skills that can range from disengagement to restrictive holds. Maybo has developed programmes of simple skills based on natural movements that do not rely on strength or aggression. These non-violent skills have been legally and medically reviewed and have earned considerable credibility across different sectors.
  • Violence is a complex risk to manage and Maybo helps its clients and tutors to integrate training with other measures to ensure a positive impact.

Who is eligible for the Maybo Licensed Programmes?

Requirements differ between sectors and Maybo embraces those set by the leading body in that sector. Maybo can advise and support. Maybo will assess the organisation's quality assurance processes, including insurance cover and suitability of nominated tutors.

What will be the scope of the licences?

An organisation will typically be licensed to deliver Maybo training in one of the following sectors:

  • Care: Maybo accredited, accessible for organisations in healthcare, ambulance, general hospital, primary care, plus social services. Includes aspects for adults with intellectual disabilities or mental health issues

  • Children: Maybo accredited, accessible for organisations in care, justice or educational environment for children reducing violence in the classroom.

  •  Other work sectors: Maybo accredited, accessible for organisations working in housing, local authority, government, justice, retail, transport, utilities, charity and voluntary sectors.

Licences are specific to one programme and scope of end-user delivery.  Each sector has different needs and requires specific materials, knowledge and skills.

Administration is simple

Maybo has created a secure web-based management system which provides:
• Simple delegate registration and ordering of resources
• Course administration and recording
• Instant training reports and management information
• Training evaluation –end of course and workplace options

Tutor commitment

For the conflict management there is 10-15 hours of pre-course learning.
 Conflict management         5 days
 Physical intervention in disengagement      3 days
 Physical intervention combined disengagement and holding skills  5 days

Assessment: Please note that tutors will be assessed. Those not reaching the required level of competency will be deferred. For those wishing to be re-assessed additional learning support may be necessary.

Additional Tutor Development and Coaching: Organisations wishing to increase further the confidence of tutors by additional knowledge and skill capacity can arrange for tailored development or coaching sessions.

Revalidation: In order to maintain and build on skill levels trainers will have to attend a revalidation course on an annual basis.

End user programme contents

End user sessions are of one to three days duration.

The professional level of the courses will be emphasised by the high quality workbooks for tutors and delegates. Stress is taken out of the administration because tutors have free user-protected access to Maybo's custom-built on-line management system. This enables tracking of delegate records and ordering of certificates.

Quality assurance considerations ensure that a strict protocol is followed.

Adjustments: Maybo reserves the right to limit or extend the scope of licensed delivery at any time at its absolute discretion. This will generally be based on emerging sector requirements or initiatives.

Please note the following extract from  the research: Violence management training, Antonio Zarola BSc (Hons) MSc and Dr Phil Leather BA MA PhD CPsychol AFBPsS it says:
"It takes considerable time, energy and resource to build up the competence and confidence level to take on the role of a violence management training specialist.
However appropriate the process for selecting or designing a particular violence management programme, unless trainers have been selected and developed to meet particular standards the training is unlikely to be effective.¨
