Alcohol Related Incidents Create Rise in A&E Visits

Alcohol plays a part in up to 35% of A&E visits in the North East, a report from Balance North East has revealed.

It places an increasing burden on NHS staff, who are having to cope with challenging and sometimes aggressive behaviour every day as well as dealing with highly vulnerable drinkers. Drinking is a major factor in violent assaults, trips and falls, road traffic accidents, psychiatric emergencies and self-harm.
