Community Care Survey Reveals Rise in Abuse Against Social Workers

Figues obtained by Community Care under the Freedon of Information Act have been compiled to show an increase in harrassment, verbal abuse and physical assault suffered by social care staff in 117 local authorities.

Headline figures

94.4% of respondants said they have been abused, assaulted or threatened with violence while working in social care.

56.4% said it had happened between 2 and 5 times

73.5% said the purpetrator was the service user and 46.1% said it was a relative or friend of the service user

76.6% replied they felt at risk of violence
