Doctors and Nurses Targeted in Aggressive Incidents Outside Hospital

Physical assaults and verbal abuse against hospital staff in A&E and on the wards are well documented but staff at Southampton General are now being targeted on their way to and from work.

The Southern Daily Echo reports that beggars are allegedly approaching people asking for money and intimidating them with verbal abuse and in some cases trying to grab them.

There have been five incidents in the past week, taking place in the dark, either at night or in the early hours as shift workers return to their cars.

Local police and hospital security teams have stepped up patrols and are asking staff to leave in pairs and remain vigilant.
