Education Cut Backs Threaten Behaviour

The Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) has expressed concern that proposed cutbacks could impact on the capacity to deal with student behaviour issues in schools. 

The removal of provision for extra counselling and reduction in teacher numbers add to the likelihood of incidents of challenging behaviour and reduce the capacity to effectively manage such situations. Unacceptable behaviour such as verbal abuse, threatening or intimidating behaviour or incidents of violence towards other students or teachers, severely restricts teaching and learning and puts the health and safety of other students and teachers at risk.
