The British Security Industry Authority (SIA) have announced that all door supervisors who trained before the new qualification was introduced in 2010 will have to complete an approved PI training module before they can renew their licence.

This is welcome news for all those in the industry who campaigned for this and who have seen the difference credible physical intervention training makes to the safety of both customers and door supervisors.

Maybo Chairman, Bill Fox commented, "It's a great outcome for retail operators, their staff and customers. Credit is due to the forward thinking companies that have campaigned for the past twelve years for this, from the first BII initiative, the ongoing commitment of Skills for Security and the SIA which has listened and delivered".

The SIA has said it is working to introduce the new requirement at "the earliest opportunity", and that the industry will be given at least six months notice.

We will bring you more details on this news as soon as it becomes available.
