Residential Care Staff Lack Training to Manage Challenging Behaviours

An analysis of 300 Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection reports on residential care homes carried out by Community Care revealed that in around 15% of homes there was insufficient training provision in managing challenging behaviours.

Safeguarding, dementia care and the Mental Capacity Act were the areas that fared worse with 178 of the 250 homes that were told to improve by the CQC, having training for these topics.

The research also highlighted a need to better support care staff in managing the health needs of residents.
