Violence Against Frontline Train Staff - Union Calls For Better Security

Conductors should work only in pairs, says the Rail, Tram and Bus Union to in the light of violence aboard V/Line trains.

The Herald Sun reports it has seen figures showing that between January 2015 and May 2016, 31 V/Line frontline staff were assaulted and 213 were verbally abused.

The Union is also pushing for a security overhaul on trains. It wants all V/Line carriages equipped with first-aid kits, break-glass arms that dial emergency services, intercoms to alert drivers, and improvements to Wi-Fi.
