Health services across South Australia (SA) are currently being audited to ensure that adequate systems are in place to protect workers from bullying, harassment and other inappropriate behaviours.

The Safe Work SA inspectors will analyse whether the correct measures are in place to:

    • Identify psychological hazards and work-related fatigue that result from bullying, harassment and inappropriate behaviours
    • Manage risks
    • Deliver adequate training
    • Ensure appropriate control measures are in place to prevent or minimise the risk of harm to workers

The safety campaign is in response to the parliamentary inquiry into Workplace Fatigue and Bullying in Hospitals and Health Services report, which recommended: “Safe Work SA develop and implement targeted strategies and plans in conjunction with hospital employers, aimed at reducing instances of workplace fatigue and bullying.”

Findings from the audits will help identify areas for improvement, further education and training in order to ensure the health services manage their health and safety responsibilities adequately.

Safe Work SA: Safety focus on fatigue and bullying in hospitals and health services

    Maybo perspective

An alarming number of healthcare professionals experience violent and aggressive behaviours on a daily basis. Our training aims to provide these individuals with the practical skills and confidence to prevent and de-escalate difficult and potentially risky situations involving patients.

By focusing on specific scenarios experienced in particular roles and settings, we help teams feel more confident and better prepared to manage challenging situations.

We have the ability to provide this training face to face (where safe and appropriate) and online to minimise face-to-face contact for the group, which has been particularly popular during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can find out more about our training services here: click here
