The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has announced that from April 2021 it expects health and social care services in England to only use training in restrictive practises that is certified as complying with the new Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Training Standards.
The standards apply to all training that has a restrictive intervention component in education, health and social care settings across both children and adult services.
The CQC acknowledges that due to the COVID:19 pandemic delivery of the face to face training needed to comply with the new standards is not always possible. It points out, however, that since April 2020 any provider of this training has had to be approved by the RRN and that the CQC expects providers of services to commission their training accordingly.
